St John-in-Bedwardine Parish Magazine
Worcester, England
location and brief history of the Parish
St John-in-Bedwardine is an anglican parish on the west bank of the River Severn as it flows through the lovely city of Worcester. The parish is in the care of the Rev’d Christopher Stuart. It is one of the Worcester West group of parishes, and forms part of the Martley & Worcester West Deanery of the Diocese of Worcester. (Bishop: the Right Rev’d John Inge).
The church is Norman and became the parish church of the west Worcester village of St John’s in 1371. Before that time, the parish church was St Cuthbert’s at Lower Wick, a mile to the south. The remains form a converted barn and can be visited at Bennett’s Farm Park. St John-in-Bedwardine is the only remaining medieval church in Worcester used for daily worship.
